Unwritten Chronicles, LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates Unwritten Chronicles ("the Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

We are committed to handling your data responsibly. We collect only what we need to provide the Service and do not sell your personal information to third parties.

2a. Information You Provide

  • Email address — used for account authentication, receipts, and service communications
  • Username — your chosen display name within the Service
  • Payment information — processed directly by Stripe; we do not store card numbers or banking details

2b. Information Collected Automatically

  • IP address — collected for security, fraud prevention, and general analytics
  • Gameplay data and logs — including player actions, AI responses, campaign events, and credit usage. Used to provide the Service, improve AI quality, and resolve support issues
  • Browser and device type — collected for compatibility and debugging purposes

2c. Information We Do Not Collect

  • We do not collect your real name unless you voluntarily provide it
  • We do not collect payment card numbers — Stripe handles all payment data
  • We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Process credit purchases and send payment receipts
  • Provide and operate the AI game experience
  • Send transactional emails (purchase confirmations, password resets)
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and ToS violations
  • Diagnose technical issues and improve the Service
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your gameplay data to train AI models without explicit consent. We do not send marketing emails without opt-in.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances.

4a. Service Providers

We share data with third-party providers necessary to operate the Service:

  • Stripe — payment processing. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
  • Anthropic — AI language model processing. Game inputs are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
  • Stability AI — image generation. Scene descriptions are sent to generate images. Subject to Stability AI's Privacy Policy.
  • Voyage AI — semantic search embeddings. Campaign text is processed for search functionality. Subject to Voyage AI's Privacy Policy.
  • Giphy — GIF content delivery. When you use the /giphy feature, GIF content is loaded directly from Giphy's CDN. Your IP address and browser information may be visible to Giphy when loading this content. Subject to Giphy's Privacy Policy.

4b. Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public.

4c. Business Transfers

If the company is acquired or merges with another entity, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Gameplay logs are retained for up to 12 months and then deleted or anonymized. If you close your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and secure credential storage. No system is perfectly secure. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

7. International Users

The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

Because we use only strictly necessary cookies, no cookie consent banner is required or displayed.

When you visit Stripe's domain to purchase credits, or when GIF content loads from Giphy's CDN, those third-party domains may set their own cookies under their respective privacy policies. We have no control over or access to those cookies — they exist entirely on those providers' domains, not ours.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is intended for adults 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have collected information from a minor, we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by prominent notice on the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
